ICT in support of small-town women in Bulgaria
Christina Haralanova | 8 May 2007

T-Centre Dryanovo launches a project for creating more opportunities before women through access to ICT. “ICT in support of small-town women” is one of the 9 projects recognised among 72 applications in a contest of Bulgarian Women Fund “2007 European Year for Equal Opportunities for All, for Women and Men”.

The aim of the new initiative is to offer equal opportunities and improve the quality of life of women in the community. The project will give the opportunity to the women engaged in different initiatives to raise the awareness on their activities, as well as to successfully find their place in the labour market.

Having improved their skills and knowledge in ICT, the project is to motivate the women to search actively for employment. It will help them to balance their personal and working life and will encourage the integration of those who have taken an extensive leave. It will also support the working women in keeping their employment and developing their career.

The activities under the project include a series of trainings in ICT and web design for two target groups – young mothers and women above 45. Eventually, the participants will create Internet site of a non-government women organization of Dryanovo. They will also issue a newsletter informing on women rights, European and national programmes, good practices, etc. The project will culminate in a round table on the theme of “The place of the women in ICT sector”. Experts, NGO representatives, journalists, local authorities, business representatives will take place in the discussion.

On 28 March 2007 the document for the implementation of ICT in Support of Small Town Women Project was signed. The project’s budget is 458,600 BGN, and its duration is 6 months.
