Automasites: a simple tool to create your own website
Joelle Palmieri | 20 April 2006

Automasites? automatic? sites? automatic websites? yes! The automasites are ready-to-go websites that free you from all the myths surrounding Internet technologies: Why do I need to have a website? Who will help me? Will my technician or webmaster accept my texts and photographs? will she/he put them online at the right time? and what about the language support?... Done!

Don’t worry about the hosting, the identity (domain name), the design, and be completely autonomous when updating your wesbite. Created on the basis of free software, and in particular with SPIP publication software (CMS), and hosted with non commercial providers, the automasites guarantee you total independence.

Why having the automasites?

To make the information and communication technologies (ICTs) at service of all non-racists, non-sexists and non-homophobes, who act together in sharing and reinforcement of the social relations in a specific territory; and in particular for women’s groups using economic alternatives, for the actresses of the fight against inequalities, for women - creators of their own jobs all around the world.

To break out the isolation and give the initiatives providing strong social appreciation and utopia of another possible world the visibility they deserve. To facilitate the sharing of experience through a progressively built up networking.

How to access the automasites?

In order to make your request, please visit the Automasites.net website. In a simple and non-technical interface, you will need to indicate the name of your organization, email of the contact person, possibly your address, logo and short information related to your activities.

In return, you will receive the access codes which will enable you to start work, i.e. to put online all your texts and images without any additional software nor HTML knowledge. In the tread you can immediately communicate the name of your site which will look like this (please visit the link).

You can also profit from the trainings, which will enable you to better learn the tool. Besides the technical part, these trainings include a basic initiation about writing, which is necessary in order to master the information management and the diffusion of information as well as the virtual exchanges. They are based on your contents, which guarantees you to work directly on your own website.

How to take part?

All your suggestions, your experiments, your practices can only enrich this step, based on the mutualisation of the means. Then do not hesitate to transmit your thoughts to us to action@automasites.net. If you are a producer of skeletons of site, of CSS, do not hesitate to share them! This will widen the field of the possible ones.

You can also subscribe to our newsletter for keep being informed about our work and publications.
